DIY Tray Makeover

Here is a very simple tutorial on how to make an old serving tray look new again.  If you've got a tray kicking around, pop over to your hardware store, and take 5 minutes to bring your tray back to life.

I bought this wooden serving tray from a thrift store with plans of sprucing it up a bit. Any old tray will do, but it will be easiest to apply the tiles to a square or rectangle shape. Cutting the tile to fit curves will be no fun at all!

What you'll need:
-a serving tray
-peel & stick tiles
-exacto knife

Start by wiping down your tray with a damp cloth. You want your tiles to stick nicely without any dust or dirt getting in the way.

Peel and stick your tiles following the manufacturer's instructions. Use a exacto knife to trim your pieces and make sure to overlap your tiles so that there are no spaces or lines showing. I needed 3 tiles to complete my tray. Okay, it was more like 2 1/2, and I've got some pieces left over.

If your edges don't stick well, follow the manufacturer's instructions to glue them down.

What thrift store find do you have that needs some sprucing up?
