What You'll Need:
-3 bangles
-Approx. 6m embroidery thread
-E6000 (optional)
-scissors
-2 spacers (popsicle sticks or sticks made from thin cardboard)
-2 clothespins or small clamps
-embroidery needle
On Wednesday I showed you how to create spacers to give you a gap between your bangles to make it easier to work with. I would recommend making the 'Braided Ribbon Bangle' if you haven't already as today's bracelet is a slightly more advanced version of it.
To start, you can glue one end of your thread to the inside of the bangles, or you can tie a small knot and hide the strand ends under your work as you go.
Thread the other end of your floss onto the needle -I couldn't imagine doing this project without a needle. And we're going to start weaving the thread through the bangles.
Hold your bangles vertically and bring your needle up on the far left side. Then insert the needle in between the first and second bangle.
Now, take the thread under the second bangle and bring it up between the second and third bangles.
Wrap the thread over, then under the third bangle and bring it up between the second and third bangles.
Take the thread over the second bangle and insert it between the first and second bangle.
Wrap the thread under the first bangle, bring it forward on the far left side and then insert it again in between the first and second bangle.
Continue following this pattern: just remember "under, over, under, over" and you'll have the hang of it in no time. Hint: the front side of your bangle should look the same as the back.
After you've woven your thread through your bangles a few times, push the threads upward so that no space is showing in between the thread.
When you reach the end of your thread, you can either glue the end to the bangle and start a new thread or colour in the same way. What I ended up doing was tying a small knot to join my old thread with my new thread and I covered up the ends as I went.
Just like in my braided ribbon bracelet tutorial, when you get about half way around the bangle and the spacers start to get in the way, you can just keep sliding them over until you are comfortable removing them completely.
I admit this takes some time, but the results are well worth it. Plus, it's the perfect mindless project to finish up while watching a movie! I love movie-watching-types of projects.
Do you love your new bracelet?
